For two consecutive years, 250 children in this school benefited from the “Gema Virtues and Values” and the “Gema Encounters” programs.
The program fulfilled its mission as described by the school teacher, Yajaira Cruz: “…it has been wonderful; not only in terms of contents but also regarding the way of teaching them…students have become more sensitive and perceptive kids. They know about values and put them into practice, which has been reflected in their interaction with peers and their behavior during school activities…they remember and cite the different values learned.”
The “Gema Virtues and Values” program benefited 124 students from this school. Due to the deterioration of the school building we decided that the service project would be to make improvements to the facility. Exterior walls were painted and a mural was created with the help of the children who participated in the workshops.
Before the completion of the workshops, the school building looked great. The mural could be observed when walking through the hallways, and it not only embellished the place, but also reminded students that wonderful things can be done through service.
